VetAI research · October 2026

We checked 25 clinics Google calls "Open 24 hours." 24 were telling the truth.

On October 5, 2026, VetAI checked 25 clinics that Google lists as "Open 24 hours" across Los Angeles, San Diego, and Seattle against each clinic's own website. 24 matched. One did not: its own site describes evenings, weekends, and holidays rather than round-the-clock care. This page is the audit, with the method and the clinic named.

Method

We picked emergency clinics in three metro areas whose Google listing carries the "Open 24 hours" label: 9 in Los Angeles, 8 in San Diego, 8 in Seattle. For each one we read the clinic's own website and compared the hours it publishes for itself. A match means the site backs the 24-hour claim. A mismatch means it does not. No clinics were contacted, and no clinic was visited. Every claim below is about published text, checked on October 5, 2026.

The one that did not

The mismatch is the Animal Emergency Clinic of San Diego, in Poway, California. Google lists it as "Open 24 hours." Its own website tells a different story, three ways at once. The header says "Open 7 Days a Week: Evenings, Weekends & Holidays." The hero calls it "24/7 Emergency Vet in Poway." A services paragraph says the clinic serves the area on "weekday overnights and 24 hours on weekends and holidays," while another page claims "open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year." We re-read the site on October 6, 2026. All three descriptions were still there. Whatever the true schedule is, the published record does not agree with itself, and Google's simple label matches the most generous version, not the careful one.

The honest read

Google was right 24 of 25 times. We are not going to pretend otherwise, and a finding of "listings are usually right" is not much of a headline. But the value of a listing is not set by the average. It is set by your worst night. If the one clinic you drive to is the one whose hours were wrong, the other 24 do not help you. The fix costs one minute: call before you drive. The clinic confirms it is open, hears what is happening, and can be ready. Our emergency vet finder guide builds that call into the steps, and the ER or wait check helps you decide whether tonight is the night.

Check yours

  1. Search your vet and your nearest emergency clinic the way you would at 2am, not the way you would on a calm day.
  2. Compare what the listing says with what the clinic's own site says. If they disagree, believe the phone call, not the listing.
  3. Save the confirmed number. A listing is a rumor until the clinic answers.

Common questions

How did VetAI check the hours?

We took clinics whose Google listing says "Open 24 hours" in three metro areas, then read each clinic's own website for the hours it publishes. Match means the site backs up the 24-hour claim. Mismatch means it does not. No clinics were contacted. The check ran on October 5, 2026, and the mismatch was re-read on October 6.

Are Google hours usually wrong?

Not in this sample. 24 of 25 listings matched the clinic's own published hours. That is the honest finding, and we are not going to dress it up. The risk is concentrated, not common: the one wrong listing is the one a panicked owner would drive to.

Why publish one clinic's name?

Because a nameless finding helps nobody check anything. The claim is narrow and sourced: on the dates checked, this clinic's own website described its hours in ways that conflict with each other and with Google's "Open 24 hours" label. Hours change. The lesson is not about one clinic. It is: call before you drive.

Will VetAI re-check?

Yes. This audit repeats, and this page updates with the date of the latest check. Clinics fix their listings, and when one does, the update shows here. If you run a clinic and your hours here look wrong, write to us and we will re-read your site the same day.
